    Maria is one of Firion's allies in Final Fantasy II, as well as his love interest. She survives the attack upon her home by the Empire and joins with Firion and Guy on a quest to stop the Empire and discover what happened to her lost brother, Leon. Maria uses a bow and is proficient in Black Magic. She is the first playable female character in the series; previous player characters in Final Fantasy had no gender.
