An arcade game in the age of the forever game.
Watching credits roll on a game is one of the fulfilling things when it comes to gaming. You’ve met a game halfway. They delivered an experience and you met them on their terms. I’ll always feel compelled to go back to a game that I didn’t see credits for.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 The Movie was good. Real, real good. I wonder why the Sonic games can’t play as well as Mario Kart does. I know that no matter what Mario Kart level I am playing that I will have a good time and there are secrets to be had. I guess I have never finished a Sonic game and I watched one being played on Mixer with someone that I was friends with for about a month. There is DLC coming out for Mario Kart and it might be the first batch of DLC that I ever buy a DLC from Nintendo. I can’t think of what my first CONSOLE ONLY dlc purchased was. Having gone through that thought exercise I settled on it was probably Modern Warfare (2007) and I probably picked up only 1 DLC. Is that all they had for Modern Warfare? With the maps Killhouse, Creek, Chinatown, and Broadcast? I’m sure in my youth at that time that I must have felt the compulsion of online competition and measuring up against the competition. I don’t feel such ways in a game like Mario Kart. I am however very much interested in all the DLC. Because I was playing on the Wii-U i didn’t feel at all compelled to buy the DLC for a 10 year old console at nothing close to a reduced rate.
I only finished the game at 50CC’s and I love that the different speeds offer an opportunity to experience the game in new ways. I also like how each joycon can be used for a separate controller so if I somehow get a group of people over we have a simplistic enough controller for a simple, yet complex game. I ultimately bought the Switch version of the game because I really want to get all of the courses at some point with the 2 year DLC plan they have made a promise of 48 courses. This is the most excited i’ve been for a game that is 8 years old in a very long time.
The music is great. The gameplay is really fun, despite the cheap items like lightning bolts existing. I really like the fact there’s a Mercedes GLA suv in the game. It just seems like Mario Kart has joined the 21st century. Has nintendo ever really done anything representative of the modern era outside of Pikmin? Splatoon? Kirby? Housemark thinks that arcade games are dead. Mario Kart 8 proves otherwise.
