Mass Effect 2 is an amazing experience for me and one of the things that made love it so much more is the romance system. In the first game I choose to romance Ashley (though part of that was because I knew before I played Mass Effect that Tali wasent an option) so when It came to Mass Effect 2 and I couldent just continue my relationship with Ashley I actually ended up contemplating would it be right to have a relationship with Tali since I didnt actually finish it with Ashley properly, I knew she had lingering feelings and a few other reasons. This was an amazing thing for me because I have never actually "felt" in a game before I just made the choices I guessed my character would make (in an RPG usually) or whatever was just most fun but the world of Mass Effect and in particular the Characters drew me in so deeply they were in my head when I wasent playing the game and the thought of seeing them hurt made me felt bad and I wanted to avoid that situation.

The one thing that really is annoying me is that as far as I can see there is no way I can be friends with the other love interests on the ship, my only real option it seems is to start a relationship with them (and end my other relationship) when really what I want to do is just to keep getting to know them so instead im having to ignore.

Mass Effect 2 is still an amazing game but I really wish that in Mass Effect 3 I could continue to get to know characters without having a romantic relationship with them.

Yeah I know what you mean. As soon as I gave Tali a bit of a romancing all the other women (except Samara) went totally ape shit. Especially Jack. Shes such a filthy slag. She kept telling me to f**k off and the worst I could say back to her was "I'm not ready to end what I've got with Tali". I really wanted to just be able to give her a back hand slap or something. She has it coming the entire game. As you say I hope for better relationships in Mass Effect 3 were you can just be friends.

What bugs me when I play Mass Effect 2 is that I speak with Tali and she's all "Oh Shepard you womanizer you..." and Miranda is all "Im not doing shit with you unless you tell Tali to call it off", and if I go with Miranda, Tali will tell me she's not gonna take that damn mask off unless I stop talking to Miranda. Jack just hates me and says she doesn't wanna play anyway, or that Im just being pissy about it. Samara says she's not interested but is flattered.
 
I just go for FemShep, FemShep likes my reach. It's great for turning on the music player while we lie down on the couch or grabbing drinks off the table without having to move her.

It's weird how all the women come on to you as male shep, but as female shep you have to take the initiative with all the relationships, like they're hidden almost. And you don't have to break up catfights on a romantic basis, which is always nice.

While I do agree "just friends" should be an option, you are on a space ship headed towards something you ALL are calling a suicide mission.  Stress and hormones don't mix well at all.

lol..I agree that the romances are a bit rushed and the relationships are kinda flat. I was trying to cheer miranda up so she wouldn't be such a downer and she wanted me to start feeling her up. I was like "eh, that's not what I meant. i got something going with tali." She didn't wanna ever talk to me again...wtf? Whatever then, lol.
