Max Payne 3
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released May 15, 2012
The long-awaited third Max Payne game finally arrived in May 2012, courtesy of Rockstar Vancouver. Eight years after the end of Max Payne 2, an aging, burnt-out Max finds one last chance to redeem himself while working as a bodyguard for a rich family in Brazil.
Do you roll in Max Payne 3?
It seems like the reviews for Max Payne 3 are pretty mixed. A lot of the Bombcast doesn't seem to like it that much. It's fine that they don't like a game. The only problem I have is that I don't understand WHY they don't like it.
A lot of reviews seem to mention that control is an issue, but I've never seemed to have that problem. I've always seemed to be able to do what I want to do, and the game didn't seem to hard, even when I was diving out of cover and running around.
But then I played the game in front of one of my friends. I rolled into cover once I saw a few bad guys. His reaction: "You can ROLL?"
This concept was crazy to me! I roll so much in Max Payne 3! Rolling is as important as slo mo diving! I roll when I try to get from cover to cover. I roll when I'm out in the open! Rolling the way you move from point A to point B! I think the reason I knew I could roll was because I remembered it was important in Max Payne 1 so I looked up the button for it right away.
So I thought I'd ask the internet. Do you roll? Did you even know you COULD roll? Does rolling effect your ability to play the game/? My theory is that people who roll have a great time with the game and people who don't think the controls are trash. Do I have it right? What do you think Max Payne fans/ haters?
I rolled a lot to move from cover to cover and to get into cover more quickly/safely when running towards it. Edit: Every now and then in combat as well.

Why roll when you can fly in slo mo?
Because sometime you just want to get to cover, or not shoot some one, or not risk diving into a wall or something. I think a big part of the game is choosing when to roll and when to dive.
That being said, you should be trying to achieve as much slo mo as possible.
I rolled all the time and aside from the aesthetics and some of the music I disliked the game.
Also rolling isn't as helpful as it was in the past two games, you barely cover any distance in MP3.

Always be wall diving

This man speaks the truth.
The one thing I miss from the old games is being able to run in a room with dual sawed-off double barrel shotguns, activating slow-mo, blast a motherfucker away, reload-dodge (I think that's the terminology people came up with... the extremely quick reloading in slow-mo) and just do that over and over until the room is clear. That was so fun.
All the fucking time. Rolling was even more vital than shootdodging in the first Max Payne, so it was the first thing I did as soon as I got control. It's, sadly, one of those things the game doesn't mention to newcomers.
I believe the trouble with most is, they rely on cover too much, hence rendering Max and his precious head immobile and easy targets. Max should shootdodge, roll, run, take cover for a second or so to fill up bullet time, and repeat. Unfortunately the game itself doesn't direct players to this approach, and downright forces cover in some scenes. So I can't fault anyone for not trying, especially those unfamiliar with the series.

Wait, you can prone in Max Payne 3 too? Sheesh, I guess I didn't do anything else than running and shooting.
You go prone by holding vs tapping the crouch key, but then maybe you weren't aware there was crouch too.
If you're already crouched though, like at the start of the airport on the baggage conveyor, you can't go straight to prone. You have to stand first. I wish there was a separate prone key.
On the higher difficulty levels it helps a lot in some places to use crouch or prone.
Roll to position yourself for an ideal shootdodge, roll up stairs, roll down stairs, roll to close the gap to get an execute kill.. lots of rolling.
