It's been a loooong time since I've played MGS2, but I thought if you gently let go of the X button after you bring up your gun, you'll lower your gun and not shoot the person you're holding up. Is this not the case anymore?

Problem lowering gun?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I never really figured it out, so I'd first-person aim, hold up a guy, then use R2 to rotate through weapons.
I had a similar problem when playing through MGS2. I just popped open the inventory screen and took the gun out. I think you can do the X button thing in MGS3.
The buttons on the PS2 are touch sensitive (not so sure about PS3, I assume 360 doesn't have them), so you would actually ease off the button gently to put it away without firing. Likewise you could point the FAMAS without firing by lightly holding the button, and press all the way to fire. But this was a dicey proposition so I always used the unequip trick like everyone else.
If you release the button gently, Snake will lower the gun without firing. For some reason, it seems a little harder to pull off on the HD collection than it was originally.
Depends on the platform you're playing it on. For PS3, like others have said, you need to ease off the button gently. For 360, you have to push down on the left stick. This makes aiming anything other than pistols without firing virtually impossible, so if you want hold up a guard, don't even think about using an automatic weapon.
In all fairness it was never exactly easy even with the PS2 controller. I can't count how many times I would hold a guy up and accidence shoot him.
The idea of having the left stick as an option actually pushes me toward the Xbox version, when it finally comes out over here. It makes me wonder, does the PS3 version give you the option to change it?
Assigning the same button to aiming and firing is something only the Japanese could think up.
Just awful.

Awesome. I'll try this. Thanks!
I've been playing the PS3 version and you can still lower your gun by gently releasing the trigger but it's extremely sensitive. It seems to be a lot more difficult than in the original which is quite annoying.
Pretty sure its in the ps3 version as well....
But I know on the 360 version, to raise or lower your weapon without firing, click the left stick. Works for mgs2 and 3. Something new for both games. Though, you click the left stick to aim without pressing x, once you do fire once, your aim goes back down after one shot.
Man, I know the game just came out in Europe, but can we avoid resurrecting old threads, unless it actually pertains to the topic?
