Microsoft demonstrated gameplay of the Project X-ray which is a played with their artificial reality headset, Hololens, and its controller. During the demonstration, enemies appear from walls around the environment and even appear to crawl onto other real life objects. The player moves around with full freedom and utilizes two different weapons with his controller. His movements are slow and methodical which make question how well this demonstration would hold up if his movements were quicker and more complex. Nonetheless, I take this as an early proof of concept that there is certainly a place for games in AR and that the early tech is capable of some relatively impressive spacial awareness.
