@dubstepislands: Can you be a little more specific with your question? Are you asking how we'd describe Minecraft, our general opinion on Minecraft, or something else?

I used to be okay with Minecraft, no real opinion.

After moving in with my girlfriend and her two kids, who are disgustingly obsessed with Minecraft and anything Minecraft related, I fucking hate it. It's apparently huge with children.

@dubstepislands: Oh, my time to shine?

Minecraft, a game where you can let your imagination run wild, its a addiction, a passion, a way of life some might say!

Minecraft is many things depending on who you ask. I see it as a game where the possibility are endless. Where every day you could so something new, Reason I like this game so much, is the endless replay value. Best $25 I ever spent. The community, is so so. You have your kids over here,

that are addicted. They cant get enough of it. Good and bad, some kids are just little asses and grief, pvp, and all that goodness. While some are nice. That can actually be said for the whole community, some people can be crap, but I like to believe most are generally good.

What is minecraft, company wise? Well Mojang is great in their own ways, free updates every 2-3 months? That's great.

I'm not sure where I'm going here.

What he said, ask me a specific question and I'll answer it more through

    I bought it for $15, October 7, 2010, and haven't stopped playing.

Been a member of the GB server for a while before ownership changed to Nodderly, and I somehow managed to become a mod for it along the way. Still not sure how that happened. The game is still constantly updating with more stuff, is very open to modders (evidenced by FTB and others) and is just a nice, laid-back game to play.
I've also met some very awesome people via the GB server.

@strainedeyes: We all have our opinions, do you think minecraft has brought out their imagination a little? What other video game would you rather them playing? Of course we all want kids to be outside.

Here I was all ready to type up a page or two about what I think of Minecraft and then I look to see that this thread is about three months old.

Minecraft was huge, it still is huge, and it just might always be huge. I think it's deserved though, we've never really seen a game like this before. I know they borrowed a lot of ideas from Dwarf Fortress or whatever, but where that game is totally incomprehensible to even a majority of the hardcore gaming crowd, minecraft is literally playable by anyone and everyone with a sense of imagination and a desire to express themselves creatively, be it through creating a structure of some personal significance, or even just building a story for themselves in the time they spend wandering around. I've seen a lot of kids really go wild (in a good way) with the creative mode and some who are just in love to be playing a game that doesn't stress them out with goals or any weighty consequences.

All in all, I think it's a great thing. It's one of the biggest cultural phenomenons of recent memory, and not just in video games even. While I don't personally get down with Minecraft as much as I think I should, it really is just something else.
