One of the goriest fighting game franchises returns to its roots, introducing a new story that re-tells the events of the first three Mortal Kombat games (with a unique twist).
Am I missing something or does this reflect nearly *everything*.
I haven't really noticed before, because I don't really play Kratos... and to be honest I don't meet that many Kratoses (Krati??) online - but I was playing a match against one, and was basically completely dominated by an opponent that spammed that move.
I get that you can probably time an attack between the execution of the moves, but it seems a bit crazy if that's really the only way to get in. To me it appears to reflect projectiles, high/mid-attacks, throws and specials (at least Kano's which was my character for that match). I'm not sure about low-attacs or sweeps though... can't remember if I tried that too.
I'm really baffled that it reflects throws too - That seemed like the obvious counter to a move like that.
I figure Smoke, Kenshi, Noob and Ermac have moves that bypass it - but generally I'm not a fan of counter-picking... and I figure all characters has to be able to do *something* against it.
Man... And it's not even an enhanced-move. Smoke has to use 1 bar to achieve a similar reflect-move... And I don't even think that is as impenetrable.
I don't play this game, but I can offer some tips from my repertoire of fighting game knowledge. Does the move have a lot of recovery frames? If so, you can bait it out and then punish it. No matter how good of a counter it is, it does nothing if you can predict it.
Use the golden fleece as an opportunity to get in on Kratos. If they continue to spam while you are that close then you are just going to have to time your attacks carefully.
They knew from the outset that he was going to be banned at tournaments so they probably didn't feel the need to balance him properly. Golden Fleece is some bullshit but it is surmountable.
It's pretty powerful, I was playing some random character matches the other day and got Kratos and experimented with the golden fleece. It countered everything that was thrown at me. Normal fleece trumped Kano's EX ball. It's easy to punish but facing someone who just tries to rush you down it'll dominate.
Smoke's "EX Shake" triggers when anyone touches, but to my knowledge that Kratos's Fleece can be punished the same way as Cyber Sub's Parry and that is lows and sweeps

Tales of Symphonia was not a particularly well written game, but it was a decently fun game.

Considering the topic is well over a month old - I'm not sure I'll actually consider that "fast"... But yeah the Kratos vs Kratos discussion is indeed way off topic.

Anyway... to the notion of low attacks working against Kratos' reflect-move...
I'm not quite sure about this, but while low sweep differently work - I'm not that sure if all low attacks do. I often play as Kano and his 2-hit LK-HK combo I THINK gets countered. It's hard to be sure, since I don't actually meet all that many Kratoses (Krati?!) online - and not all of them that consistently spam golden fleece. So I can be hard to "probe" for what works and what doesn't.
Against one opponent I recall, that I could goat him in to using his golden fleece by spamming knifes and jumping over the counter projectile and air-canon-balling him... But again... I'm not sure if he was just being careless - or if he could actually have blocked afterwards.
