NBA Jam Review
Its been a while since last we got to sample this iconic game on the console, but this game has once again appeared, even if it is from the ashes of another game, NBA Elite 11. In this game you will be squaring off in a 2 versus 2 NBA showdown, where there are no fouls, there's no out of bounds line, and slam dunks are spectacular, if not physically impossible. You'll get to choose from all 30 teams, and you'll also have three of their stars to choose from.
Graphically this game isn't suppose to be stunning, its suppose to feed on your need for nostalgia, but it does make things crisper, and definitely nails the look and feel of the arcade game. The remix mode is going to be the new look for the game as it really goes neon on you.
The music is something that should be taken in moderation, if there was a weak piece to the game its the music, and the random sound of what I believe is an "Ahh-hhaa". The commentary with the "Boom-shakalaka" and "stuffed it like a thanksgiving turkey" helps you get thoroughly pumped for the game.
the controls are pretty simple, you can shoot, steal, block, turbo, throw elbows, and of course move around. The controls are a bit over sensitive when it comes to putting in your initials before a game, or when you tap the block button you might find that your player will jump twice.
Overall this is what I wanted in an NBA Jam game, with one exception. Where is my Custom Player option, or custom team option? I'm all for playing with the Atlanta Hawks, especially since I unlocked Dominique Wilkens, but I want to make that hideous wolf-head player that I was able to make on the arcade machine. Also some of the "Remix" Modes really aren't all that much fun, especially with the amount of players only going up to 4.
If you want to take a trip down memory lane, but don't want to have to blow the dust off your older consoles to do it, this is your chance to relive some of the awesomeness of yesteryear. From unlocking players with crazy feats of skill, to out of this world dunks, this arcade game will have you striving to find a way to get on fire, and pulverize your opponent. Even with the really limited amount of gameplay outside of doing exhibitions and trying to defeat all the teams that stand in your way, there is a lot to like about this game. This game gets an 7.1 out of 10.
