It's been long enough since our first match that old wounds should have healed, and old mistakes have been forgotten. It's time again, for Neptune's Pride! And so, once again:

All you have to do is create an account. I've heard that you can also link it with a google or facebook account and it won't post anything to any social networking sites. You don't have to pay any money or download anything to join the game. It all happens in your web browser and can be accessed from anywhere.

Neptune's Pride is a Realtime 4X game, which means you're basically playing Civ 5 but everything starts off very slow. Stockpiles renew every 12 hours and it can take dozens of hours to send ships from one star to the next. There's also the ability to form alliances and stuff like that. Here's a brief tutorial from their site:

If that sounds like something you'd like to try, hop on it. The mod team has attempted a game before and it very nearly killed us. The spots are available on a first-come first-serve basis, and the game won't start until it's full.

Some changes from the last time:

I've enabled Dark Galaxy, which means you won't be able to see anything other than what's revealed by your scanning range. This means even if you're in the middle of the map, neither you or anyone else will know, and you will be less likely to be sandwiched into an early defeat.

If you want to sign up, make sure to use a random name to avoid any forum beefs. Or you could do what happened last time, where everyone named themselves Sweep and then I got called some very unkind things :(

This game runs in real time - it will take place over several weeks.

Please do not sign up unless you are fully committed to this, even if it's only a few minutes each day.

I would like to stress that you should not sign up unless you're going to actually get involved. Last time we had about 8 people who took up a space in the match and then immediately went idle and were taken over by the AI. Which is no fun for anyone.

So how much time per day does it take? I work 4days in a row (12 hours each) of which i only have access to a computer when i wake up and before sleep.

Edit: if really few minutes each day, then i can join. Of course my days off i can actually spend substantial time playing it.

@hypnotoadbrwowrowrow: Literally a few minutes each time you sign in. When the game begins everything is super slow because your speed and scanning range will be very low, so you could log in maybe a couple of times a day to keep an eye on things. Once it ramps up and people start fighting though, you might want to check it more frequently. Even then, it's possible to do so on your phone if you want, I think? But yeah, you wont be spending big chunks of time on there. The gameplay is mostly allocating research points, upgrading your economy, and saying "You guys go here" which will take them hours.

Awwww man, every time I hear someone talking about Neptune's Pride I want to give it a go, but I can never sign myself up for the reasons you mention - I can't 100% guarantee I'll be able to stick with it because of work/family/everything else. I'd hate to hog a spot that someone else could've taken and then drop out after the first few days.

Is there a good way to follow games that are happening and get an idea of the mighty empires that are rising and falling and the dastardly alliances and back-stabs that are going on in the name of GB?

It really isn't that time consuming. You can check it as often as you want to.

I've heard stories about this (the Crate & Crowbar guys talked about it on their podcast) and man does it sound interesting. I don't think I'm ready to commit to a game, but I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread and see how things go down.
