With DSi Virtual Console on its way at some point, we continue to reflect on the Gameboy Original and think about the great games it had and which ones we would like to see work its way way on to your DSi.

In this retrospective we look at another genre and the games that were good and and worthy a download if they made it onto the system.

Now, I have to say, like fighters, puzzles are not really my thing, but like everyone who owned an original Gameboy, I owned Tetris - and I loved it.  Tetirs is by far the most addictive form of gaming you could have.  I did also have Dr Mario, and only the other Nintendo themed puzzles would hold any appeal to me - and maybe Mickey's Ultimate Challenge.

So which ones did you own and play and which ones would you like to see in a DSi VC store?

Where are all the Puzzle game players?  Tetris is what made the Gameboy the sales success it was initially.  Then the flooodgates opened up.

Oh wow, there was a thread like this for puzzle games? I totally missed it.

Well, I was never a big fan of puzzle games and don't even like the original Tetris (it's just so... dull... I prefer Puyo Pop Fever for its immense cuteness).

Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon/Puzzle League/whatever you wanna call it is great, though, but I never played the original GB version.

Thanks for noticing.  Putting a link in each one was probably a smart move on my part.

I have never played Puyo Pop, but like yourself, I am attracted to 'cuteness' in these games.  I still enjoyed the aspect in Tetris of speeding up as you go.  It builds nicely.

Hmmm... I guess people really don't like puzzle games, huh?

Kind of uprising since Tetris is so ingrained into pop culture.

Yet, it is the genre which is represented the most in GSiWare and Wiiware.

Wow, sorry for missing out on this one when it was first around, dude. Count me in for Tetris and Pipe Dream if they come over to the DSi Virtual Console.

    Cool man.

I wonder if they will colour the games for VC or leave them monochrome?  The Gameboy Colour and Gameboy Advance gave them colour.

@oldschool: I am actually guessing no, they will not color them in. I think to retain the whole "Virtual Console" feel of games "how they were," they will keep them as is. The Gameboy Color and Advance games were remakes in a sense. Of course, they can also release the versions from those respective systems, which I can totally see happening.

I just had to check to make sure I am getting this right.

When you put a Gameboy game (a non colour one) in the GBA SP, the game is in colour.  Somehow, the software in the GBA colours old games.  Zelda and Donkey Kong looked pretty good actually.  Therefore, I assume a VC would do the same.

@oldschool: Oh really? I never had a Gameboy SP so I wouldn't know. That is interesting though....I am surprised I haven't heard of that before honestly.

I will try to give you a bit of an idea.  The photos aren't perfect, but better than nothing.  This is Pokemon Blue and Alien 3.  The are both original Gameboy games - monochromatic.  This is on the GBA SP.  Not really sure what technology was able to figure out which bits had the appropriate colours.
