History
What is today Pakistan was formerly known as India. The region has had an ancient history, since the Indus Valley Civilisation over 5,000 years ago. The region has been part of various Indian, Persian, Arab and British empires, and has had Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam as dominant religions at different times.
In 1947, following independence from British rule, Pakistan separated from India. Since then, India and Pakistan have been in conflict at various times. On the other hand, Pakistan has been a strong ally of China, ever since China's own war against India in 1962.
What is now Bangladesh separated from Pakistan after the 1971 Bangladesh independence war, with the help of India. Pakistan is one of the few countries in the world to have nuclear weapons, along with neighbouring India, China, and possibly Iran. Since the spillover of the Afghanistan conflict in 2004, the north-west border region of Pakistan has been in conflict between insurgent rebels and government forces.
Video Games
In video games, Pakistan has mainly been featured in titles related to either the sport of cricket, where Pakistan is a leading team, or war-themed titles, due to north-west Pakistan's current on-going conflict. Modern-day Pakistan is also the most likely location of the Indian kingdom in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
