    Can anyone identify this cable?

    Hey everyone,

I was having a sort out of my cables box and came across one I didn't recognise, which is strange for me. It definitely came with my graphics card, it plugs straight into it, it has AV stlye ports on the other end, under the green is "Y", under the blue "Pb/Comp" and under the red "Pr".

Here are a couple of pics, not the best quality, but it might help.

    Thanks for any info.

Looks like an S-Video In plug to me

Edit: Missed that the second picture was of the other end. S-Video to Component.

Not odd at all. A lot of GPUs come with them bundled.

It's an S-video to Component plug-in. Before video cards had HDMI or Mini HDMI built into their cards, they used these adapters to give people the advantage to use their HDTV's.

Seems weird to me that it only has 6 pins. Usually they have 7 pins, or look like this:

Definitely seems to be s video though.

I'm getting the impression it's an S-video to Component cable.

What gave you that impression? I can't really see anything pointing toward it.

    Yup. What they said.

Also, this would be a fun game. Everyone drag all the old cables and adapters they have in a box somewhere (that's not just me, right?) and people can guess what they are for. Neat.

It looks like a custom port for a video card so that you can output component video. It's normally pretty useless though.

I'm pretty sure that's for a Sega Master System or Genesis. Let me check.

Scratch that, I'm coulourblind. Didn't see that it was component video.

    @JTB123:
PC to TV cable for older graphics cards. S-Video out, Component In. I have one of these that came with my old nvidia 7600GS 512MB AGP card. However, this cable is only for graphics cards. The s-video end has an extra prong where extra color signals go through to achieve the higher quality component signal on the other side. If you tried using this on something like a VCR, it would not fit since it has the extra prong, nor will it produce a better component signal. Meaning: this does not universally upconvert lower quality s-video into higher quality component. Most graphics cards have a middle output which is an S-video out which this cable hooks into. Again, that output can only produce a component signal by using this cable. You can use a regular s-video cable as well aside from this one with the graphics card if your TV only has s-video and no component inputs.

That first one's not s-video.  It's a proprietary plug for a video card's component out.  They were pretty common back around the GeForce 4/ATI All-In-Wonder era.

If we start getting into proprietary components then this game is going to go on forever.
