Yea most games still run on Xp including the new hot game coming out Starcraft 2. Only reason to get windows 7 is if you want to run game son direct x 10, 11, or to play Just Cause 2 but that's about it really. Developers are smart and will make games for XP because if they don't they limit their player base.

...Well, yeah but it's not just XP. Those specs aren't exactly great.

It depends how recent we're talking but I'm willing to generalise and say no, op.

On very low settings, it's a possibility.

If you can tell us what your video card is, it might be possible to play most games, albeit low quality

Probally not, you'll even struggle a bit with half life 2. Maybe it's time to rebuild and start all over because that's really outdated.

Want 2GB of some modern RAM at minimum, and a much nicer graphics card. 2.7GHZ is alright for a processor, but still outdated. You'll be able to play some games at the lowest possible quality, but they won't be fun, and way too many are totally out of reach of your computers power.

@stoodspoon: Sadly, in that case, your probably not going to be playing any Dragon Age, Bad Company 2  or many modern games with that card.  I'd recommend getting a new computer, as upgrading probably wouldn't be possible or not do much. You can build a new pc for 700-800 than can run all of today's games reasonably well. And you can still buy computers than also run well for a bit more of cash.
