It sounds like 2011 is going to be the year of the HD collections of PS2 titles with Metal Gear and Final Fantasy possibly in the works. I can kind of see how backwards compatibility is never going to happen if they want to make money, but it still sucks none the less.
I would be really excited for having trophy support for the Metal Gear series though.
Maybe they should talk less and actually release more games now. I am bitter because I used to have a 60 gig launch ps3, YLOD on me and I used to play ps2 upscaled games on it. Then I got the new 80 gig ps3 because I had a three year waranty from best buy, and I lost the backwards compatibly feature.
I'm sure I could probally emulate ps2 games on my pc easily, however I can't figure that out. I am not going to use my ps2 anymore because when I tried a game on a 1080p hdtv, it was the worst thing i've ever seen. At least sony finally explains their excuse now with that article.
If we can't have backwards compatibility back then I'd be ok with re-releases of the best PS2 games on PSN. I don't feel like shelling out more money for full-priced HD remakes of games I've already bought once. I guess the bottom line is that Sony shouldn't have removed backward compatibility in the first place.
