Its been of a lean year for me gaming wise do to a number or reasons, so knowing i was going to be able to finally buy something for my PS4 this month made me happy. And I was really looking forward to playing shadow of mordor so i purchased it early this morning digitally, it install 4.2GB plus the patch but after the opening tutorial was done a message popped up telling me required data needed to be installed and i couldn't play until that was done. So i put my PS4 into stand by mode and went to sleep, and woke up to the same issue it was at 33% installed and would not let my select my save slot. I deleted local and online save files and started again same thing. So Now i am up to 53% and still can't play this frgging game, seriously WTF? So is this normal? or am i just cursed? I am starting to under stand why they put re-orders up a months in advance, because it takes that long to get the game downloaded and installed. Does anyone know how long this going to take? before i can play. Is this just a Sony problem? or does Xbone suffer from this as well?

    Anyways thanks for any help.

The main game is around 20GB if I recall correctly. The 4.2GB was the initial game download where you can play for about 11 minutes of the main game. Just let it finish to 100%, it's normal.

I've not experienced it with that game myself but it sounds like it's just taking a long time to download.

Most games let you play before they're fully downloaded/installed but you don't have access to all features. What you have access to varies game to game. It appears for Shadow of Mordor you have access the tutorial and nothing else. You'll have to wait until it fully downloads/installs before you can play further.

@deanoxd: Yeah, just let it download in stand-by mode until it's done. I'm pretty sure playing other games won't affect the download so you can use that time to play something else and check in with Mordor periodically to see how it's progressing.

There have been some long installs on the X1 as well, but it's not really a console-specific issue (on either the PS4 or X1). It's a file size issue, as most games are huge these days. If you don't have a fast internet connection, you're looking at downloads that take hours. I find myself either doing the pre-download on digital games or starting the install on disc games before I leave for work in the morning so it's done by the time I get back. Just part of the deal to get the pretty graphics and everything else with the latest games.
