I played the game around 2002. It was on my Playstation 2. The genre of the game can be considered a shooter but it broke down to sci fi, third person, almost like a tower defense game. I remember playing the game on a demo disc. Here is how the game played. You started off on a playing field and you where a robot which transformed from a spaceship to travel fast to a "transformer" on land to shoot down enemies. You would go around the map conquering towers. You would also go to your base to buy more of an army. You were able to buy armies like "tanks" that would travel the map to the opposing side shooting everything in the way. The object of the game was to conquer your opponents base. Hence, the almost tower defense.
I vaguely remember it was a "police shooter", I think.
