@scylo: The data core is always optional after beating the level once. My best bet would be to do it sniper style by luring both targets out with the drone mission story?????
I've been playing on PC and barely touched any other game since. Mastering the levels and going through the old levels (and 2's DLC which I've never purchased) in the updated engine is just as great as it's always been. I really appreciate that IO went with some gimmick in each level to differentiate a little. My rankings of the new maps from best to worst (which is still pretty good) : 3>5>2>1>4
Amazing video, great concept for a series. I've never dabbled in pure OG Rogue but my favorite traditional Roguelike is probably still Dungeons of Dredmor. Now I have that urge to reinstall after not having played it for a few years.
I also haven't played Dredmor in many years, but I remember it being pretty great. The Shiren the Wanderer games are probably my favorite in the more traditional roguelike genre. The Vita one (which is being ported to PC/Switch now) is really great, and I also love the DS game, which is a nice remake of the Super Famicom entry.
This first video inspired me to look at a bunch of Roguelikes including the Switch port of the Vita game you mentioned. And I finally took a plunge into Stoneshard on Steam which seems to mix old-school Rogue gameplay with more modern RPG elements and dialog trees and everything. It's still in Early Access but the two hours I just put into it left an excellent impression.
