Hey everybody, welcome to my top 10 list of the games I played this year. Things are somewhat ordered though 6-10 could almost be considered a five way tie. Also because words and self-expression are hard, I'll save anyone reading from my attempt to reword "I played this game this year and I liked it" five different ways if I don't have anything further to add.
Technically I spent much more time this year with Hitman 2016 but most of that content made its way or will make its way into this game, which is also very good. In concept, trial and error stealth sounds like a bad time, and being dropped into a brand new level can almost feel overwhelming, but as you explore you start to learn what you can get away with as well as how to trigger all of the different opportunities and challenges. Already loved what I played and can't wait to keep coming back to it as they add and update.
I finally tried out the Link to the Past Randomizer and probably played through 20+ different seeds, trying out the different modes and variations. The original game progression is fairly linear and it's crazy how well this changes it into a complex routing puzzle. And somehow almost all of the underlying logic and framework was there from the start in the original game.
Here's my biggest surprise of the year, considering I had no interest in the series or Kratos as a character up until this game. I heard a lot of good things about this one from people with similar tastes and it turns out I agree with them.
Nothing like unwinding from a stressful long day by having to extract some VIP in 6 turns and you think you've cleared the map but just stumbled onto a Sectopod and some alien that mind controls your best unit, but somehow you manage to pull it off.
This is a very good Toad game.
