Best Games of 2015

So these are the games that tickled my fancy for the year 2015.. apparently I have 3 5 of note.

List items

  • Wowsers, as Swan Songs go, Kojima couldn't have done much better, it genuinely feels like the culmination of his experience with series poured into this conclusive entry. It is none the less incredible that the series so famous for an actual 1 hour cut scene delivers something that is so strong on mechanics, what it may have eschewed in narrative presentation, its more that makes up for with one of the most satisfying gameplay loop I have played this XCOM EU.

  • No one is more surprised than me that this ended up 2nd and not 1st, and is really only pipped by MGSV, because it was such a surprise sleeper for me. That said, The Witcher 3 is a gorgeous and expansive game, and like MGSV is the culmination of the experiences born out in the previous games. 3 games later and your really feel like you know this characters, but not only that, you care about them, in there frankly deeply uncaring world. This is a real gem of open world RPG, that characterisation and dialogue are strong as it's visual flair.

  • Right ok, not strictly released in 2015, but I can't think of a game I've played more consistently that Hearthstone. It's not even that I've gotten to some supreme level of excellence (I really haven't) but nothing else bring me back on a daily basis..like er.. dailys. It's such a simplistic game on the surface when in direct contrast to something like MTG, but you would be remise to pass this over. The most recent release of league of explorers and the grand tournament are really enjoyable and bring fresh game changing mechanics to the mix. In conclusion, Hearthstone is the game that has occupied most of my time in 2015.

  • I can see why critics think this game is shallow, but I might offer the advice, that you if approach this as 'short time game', there is much to be appreciated in this high resolution love letter (love note?) to Star Wars.

  • I have played this with people who don't play video games, and they have loved it, and I know that is a weird pejorative benchmark to apply to ones own hobby, but sharing this with people and seeing there reaction is really rewarding.

  • Solid entry to the series. Thank god it's time for a break.

  • Very enjoyable short time game, and one of the fews games my GF played.

  • I as surprised as you, the PC version was a knightmare, but after some resolution, this is actually a very good entry.
