current WIP, got the Zaku from the HG ground war set, working on one of the tanks right now. The scale of people at 1/144 is really tiny... also first time doing a camo paint with the airbrush (and camo paint job in general)
all right! finally got her finished! about 45-50 hours total for the whole build! First time to do airbrushing, did all the little spots and some others (like the shoulders) before I got an airbrush. My potato quality camera will probably make it hard to tell though, lol. Next up after this is a MG F-91, not sure if I will do any custom colors cause I love the look of the gundam so much already... choices!
@hayt: I am about to order some Guundam markers this week and finish up my Heavyarms (like 95% done! so close >.<) with the markers I will try doing a top coat for the first time with the Testor's. I will update when that happens, but it will be a few weeks, lol, I'll be airbrushing my top coat on.
@hayt: I personally just started airbrushing, but i do both. I airbrush to get the shine away (and I do a lot of custom color palettes), and then hand paint the finer details. Haven't used cans but I really do like how smooth the paint comes out when dried using an airbrush. Haven't done a top coat yet with any model, thinking of doing it on my current one when it is done. Pretty mich just stick with what you like. I still love al my solely hand painted ones!
@hayt: yes, putty is used to either sculpt new things or deformed pieces. Or the most commob use for gunpla is to fill the seams between pieces and then sand it smooth.
update of my in progress MG Heavy Arms EW Custom! Most of it is hand painted, but recently got stuff needed for airbrushing. Some of the stuff is airbrushed, but not all! Did a custom color palette on this one, give it more of a desert feel. So far about 40-42 hours worth of work, painted the skeleton underneath as well. I think once I'm done with this MG I will probably stick with them. The build of the joints, the number of separate parts (making it way easier to paint!), and I haven't even started on the decals!
So i got a question. Friend from work got me a couple of airbrushes, the catch is i can either use a can (I don't want to do this) or buy a compressor. I was told a compressor with an air tank was the best and after days of perusing online,I'm not sure what to buy. Looking in the range of $50-100. Any advice or a good point in a direction would be super!
@mirx: ooooh! I really like that, really dig the detailing on the hoses, makes the rest pop. Working on a hand paint MG Heavy arms with a different color palette .
Just finished Gundam Double X from the show Gundam X (great show btw!) Did a custom color palette on this one, got a new black I might go over the old and get rid of the glossiness, but overall was a very fun build! (sorry for my potato phone quality on all the pics! best I got :( )
