All of my friends are probably tired of me starting sentences with "I was watching Giantbomb today and..."

Panzer means 'armor' and usually used just for 'tank'.

If this means getting rid of the hundreds of moldy models from Gran Turismo 4 that keep making it into successive games then great. I prefer motorsport machines over racing my mother's old Accord.

Well Dan, if you tell fans off for liking something it's normal for them to get defensive. I guess you could argue one group is more sensitive than another, but I assume you'd get frazzled if I started picking on Thin Lizzy.

Fans of Tool are probably tired of hearing that their music sounds too similar (though AC/DC has played reminiscent songs for decades) or that Geddy Lee's voice is high and annoying...so I could see how they might be quick to react.

@oldguy: I know! Even in GTAV you feel some weight to the chaos with cars freaking out to avoid danger and people screaming in horror.

At the end of this QL, Alex completes an assassination mission to kill a doctor about to perform surgery to a gallery of his peers and most of the onlookers just watch blankly.

Maybe Ubisoft took the Victorian Art of Dying too literally?

The complete lack of reaction by bystanders to stabby violence in the streets is really weird.

Oh there's a corpse in the street, I'll just keep walking; those Brits and their "stiff upper lip".

...are the 40K books worth getting into and where should I start? I've been interested in the universe but never had a good stepping off point.

I recommend new readers start with the Eisenhorn Omnibus since it's approachable & interesting -- Inquisitors are easy relate to because they're basically investigators. If you really dig that element of the universe then continue on to the Ravenor Omnibus.

To flesh out the backstory I'd recommend the first four books of The Horus Heresy (there are many in the series): Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames and The Flight of the Eisenstein.
After that you can go crazy and skip around to different chapters, races (sub-classes of both even) and time periods. My only recommendation is not to stick with one group for too long. I mean, Space Marines and their constant thirst for fascist glory in their quasi-Ancient Rome culture gets old after too many stories n a row.

Keep http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Warhammer_40k_Wiki open to help fill in any confusing gaps.
