I don't care if he liked the game or not. A good review considers objective qualities of a game over personal preference. Compare the film industry where there are dozens of movies that I cannot stand but are still considered objectively good for their qualities. Heck, Birth of a Nation, a movie about the "heroic KKK" gets credit to this day for introducing all sorts of great qualities to movie viewers even though very, very few would accept the subject matter.
Any reviewer that cannot see the content of what their reviewing om this way is a poor reviewer. Any Joe Shmoe can write a crappy personal opinion piece on a product, but as a paid professional writer, Simon should know better. He doesn't like linear games, we get it. So what? Should this be a disclaimer he puts into his review? Sure! Is it enough to knock the score down a whole 10%? That is pretty iffy, and that is the reason the supposed fanboys (and the many actual ones) are annoyed at this review.
