@bamse: I've played Inside and thought it was an incredible game. Do I think folks should be warned about it's graphic and violent nature before playing the game? 100% Yes I do.
I think you are putting part of the original posters words in my mouth, but I totally agree with the bottom paragraph of their reply. For some women this might be extremely upsetting, and take them completely out of the game to a moment when this treatment really damaged them. I think Men can feel uncomfortable, but feeling uncomfortable is not the same as being removed from the game fantasy. Also, I don't think any of this had any bearing in the conversation for GOTY. I feel like Abby said why she couldn't get through the game and then Ben was able to talk about how much he loved the game. If it played in more than I missed it. I am not arguing that those moments effect the quality, but I think they are worth mentioning. In some instances I think they do detract from the story, but I would not support that, that is the case with Disco.
I've been playing Disco, and when the misogynistic moment hit me I was like ew gross, but those moments don't usually pull me out of an experience because I am able to look past them. I have other traumas in my life that completely have pulled me out of games and I haven't been able to play them due to my discomfort. Both instances are valid.
@ahifi: I wish I could just like this response. This is seriously spot on. I think Abby did it well expressing her discomfort and basically letting women know that hey this is in here and makes me uncomfortable might also do the same for you. I don't think it discredits Disco at all, and is still allowed it's due. I am still playing Disco with the knowledge that something like that may pop up, and I am prepared for it. It literally does nothing to limit the discourse of a quality game.
