@pyromagnestir: I read The Night Circus as well a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

To the OP (and anyone else who might be interested), I'd also recommend Yukio Mishima, in particular his Sea of Fertility tetralogy. Forbidden Colors was also pretty moving. He writes about Eastern life with a lot of intensity but he does it in simplicity, like a watercolor that uses gestures to create a lasting impression.

I really like classic literature; lots of gems in there that get taken for granted. I was on a city bus for 3 hours everyday so I got to read a lot. I was reading a lot of classic horror fantasy books but I punctuated those with Hemingway and Dostoevsky, both of who I'd highly recommend. In a rather inspired few months, I tackled the entirety of Proust's In Search of Lost Time. I loved parts of it, was bored to incomprehension by other parts. I'd still recommend it but it requires a lot of commitment.

@zirilius: Dune would be rad but like you mentioned, the budget would have to be right. If they actually put a budget into it like Game of Thrones or even what they're doing now with Westworld, it could be good. They would probably need to keep the pace of Game of Thrones too which could be controversial considering how it feels when deviations are made from the source material but the pages of the Dune series are pretty saturated.

@slag: Would have been rad to play Mega Man X again. I still listen to the soundtrack to it pretty often.

Are these the only SNES games they're going to make available? I'd actually love to play Final Fantasy VI (I knew it as Final Fantasy III for SNES) again. But of the games offered, Super Metroid and maybe Zelda.

Does anyone recall how they portrayed Samus in Captain N? I remember she was in at least one episode but I only vaguely recall her suited up and shooting things.

One thing that had to be a struggle for the Captain N team was actually trying to make sense of characters like Eggplant Wizard. We were just coming out of the '80s where a robot or alien was mandatory in every sitcom but Eggplant Wizard was still really weird.

I forgot that Link was on Captain N. It's like they took a generic '80s cartoon template and applied it to Nintendo games to make something truly insulting. Though I accepted both shows, I remember that following each episode, I felt a profound confusion...like I couldn't quite reconcile the cartoons with what I loved about Nintendo. I think I just really wanted to like both shows because they were Nintendo-related which made them cooler than Muppet Babies or the Chipmunks.

Which do you think was the worst adaptation between Captain N and the Super Mario Bros. Super Show? I personally hated the representation of Link on SMBSS. That being said, I also felt Captain N's portrayal of Simon Belmont was pretty ridiculous. Completely different than how I envisioned them from the games. As a kid, I just sort of accepted it but in hindsight, they were terrible portrayals.

I think it originally ran as a 30-minute children's show in the vein of Power Rangers but I'd love it if they made a grimmer updated version of the short-lived series Photon. It was based on a game like laser tag and featured some really cheesy looking aliens battling over these crystals to keep the universe in light or darkness. The condition is that they'd have to keep the over-the-top corrupted space pirate arch nemesis. But obviously, the budget would prevent them from having shoot outs to the sounds of Phil Collins' "Sussudeo".
