I refunded at the 2 hour mark. The intro was cool but the moment you take control and you have that ridiculous car chase i was done with it. Im all for dumb shooters, but im over being marketed to on my political sensibilities. Its enraging and im disgusted to see other mediums indulge in these practices. Dont try to imply to have some deep political message and then not even try. I had my suspicions as the creative lead was making the rounds. Far Cry 5 didnt even make an attempt to say anything. Seeing this review i guess my refund was a smart decision.

I downloaded this last night. I Thought the intro was awesome. It was intense and exciting and i was completely on board with it. Then there was a god awful chase scene which suddenly reminded me 'oh yeah this is a dumb videogame'. Suddenly all of the setup was ruined for me. As the game continued they gesture towards deeper political meaning but do nothing with it. Im done with games using political statements to market the game without having any substance behind it. Its insulting to the actual struggle some people face. The Far Cry series has become the Che Guevara t-shirts of videogames. If theres one medium that can supply a disneyfication of revolution its videogames. Maybe i didnt play enough of Far Cry 5 but i refunded at the 2 hour mark. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I may return to it on a sale or something. The Far Cry series has completely been sucked up its own ass. I wish ubisoft would go back to the drawing board. Not interested in a Wildlands/Far Cry.

I just want to see the nemesis system used in a house of cards type set up. You could be politically influencing and putting hits out on people to manipulate the power structure. I just want to virtually lobby against national healthcare or take away gun regulation so that i can level up.....is that too much to ask.

Brad's completely right. Apart from characters and stuff its pretty much A new Hope made for millennials. It was so unbelievably lazy and didn't really do anything new. Just repackaged old shit with a Abrams sheen to it. Thats fine and all, but personally none of it clicked for me and left me feeling pretty bored. Add Lego to it and maybe i could be interested.
