'tis the season for single player

So my 7th semester at UF is finally over, leaving me with a sense of general accomplishment and anticipation for my final semester. Although I could not have been more happy to be leaving my lonely dorm room and the rather boring city of Gainesville, I looked with a sort of longing at the spot my computer was about 20 minutes ago. Reason being: I do not have a stable internet connection for my home computer. That's not to say I won't be able to keep up with facebook and giantbomb holiday quests, I simply won't be able to play any online games. My mother's PC takes the primo spot right by the home router and my sister's PC sits about 3 feet to the left, so my PC must be left in my own room. Although I like having my PC in my room, the only way for my distant room to get internet is via a somewhat weak wireless receiver (my room was built as an addition to the house and we never put in an ethernet port). Thus, I am unable to play Heroes of Newerth or TF2 without fear of being dropped at any moment (not to mention latency issues).

What this DOES mean, is that I'll have plenty of time to play through the single-player campaigns of a number of games for the next 3 weeks. Over the course of the year, I acquired Bioshock, Company of Heroes AND Red Faction: Guerilla via ridiculous sales on Steam. I had them sitting on my Steam homepage, waiting to be played, but the allure of a 45 minute HoN game was hard to shrug off. Now that I really have no choice, it's time to begin.

I played about two hours of Red Faction: Guerilla the other day and am greatly enjoying it. Nothing is quite as satisfying as collapsing a building with explosives or making your own entrance to a house. And as soon as my 1/4" - 1/8" audio converter arrives, I'll be playing Bioshock with a bitchin' new set of headphones that'll add to the environment so well, I'll hopefully pee my pants at least once. What's more, is that I have time to play a couple other games through again as well. I've been planning a Torchlight speedrun (for the 'chievo's) for a month or so and Dragon Age: Origins has some pretty nice replay value based on Origin story/decisions throughout the game. All in all, it's beginning to look a lot like I'm gonna have a rockin' PC-gaming winter regardless of my lack of internet.
