Game of The Year 2014 Users Choice

When you put more time into Killing Floor and Orcs Must Die 2 than any other game (minus Fifa because it is Football) then you know it's been a bad year...

List items

  • Best game. Hands down. Geometry Wars 2 with an Adventure Mode attached to it. I can't ask for much more. 9.99/10

Ok, I am biased. The Geometry Wars series is one of the most important to me in the last couple of 'generations'. Here comes a love letter:

I bought an xbox 360 with PGR3. I turned on the xbox, I left PGR3 in its wrapping, went straight to xbla and bought Geometry Wars.

Geometry Wars was everything that xbla at the time was advertised to be. Pure arcade goodness. Pick up and play. Easy to get into, hard to master. AND ONLY 400MSP!!!

It is one of the few games that have achievements that actually make you feel like you achieved something (surviving to 1 million points). It was also a game that made you try to play the game in a different way (survive the first 60 seconds without shooting... the birth of Pacifism mode)

Geometry Wars 2 came out, and visually blew my mind. It is the only game I wish I had a projector for. Turn off the light, aim it at the ceiling, you have fireworks.

This game also added 5 more modes. Not all of them were to my liking (King, I am looking at you). However, GW2 was a worthy sequel to the best XBLA game of all time.

Love letter over. Here is the jist of Geometry Wars 3:

+ Adventure mode is actually very good

+ Classic mode plays pretty much exactly like Geometry Wars 2 which alone makes this the best game of 2014

    + PC

    - The music lacks compared to the other 2 games

    - Too many leaderboards

    - Surf mini game gone from Waves mode!

Now... If you add Geometry Wars 1's version of Evolved to Classic mode, you have the best game of the century.. Please add it!

  • I can count the amount of single player campaigns I completed this year on one hand. This is one of two. I find it hard to put more than 30 hours into a single player game, and I put 50 into this one.

Frustrating, rewarding, tears, cheers, broken controllers, dark souls

  • It's Mario Kart. It does not matter which year it comes out, it will always be in the top 10. Not even a blue shell can stop it.

It is not as good as Mario Kart DS, but the visuals, the tracks, the music, the gameplay is all top notch.

    Toad, Mach 8, Slicks, go!

  • I did not like the combat system in this game. "So, why is it in your list.. surely that's important" I hear you ask. I reply "It is, if it wasn't The Stick of Truth".

+ It looks exactly like the tv show

+ The voice acting is awesome

+ You get to walk around South Park!

Everything about The Stick of Truth just works as a South Park game, even the shitty combat. It is also still a surprise when a tv show/movie is a good game, so extra points for that.

ps: this is two of two (see Dark Souls II)

  • Fifa 14 was the worst Fifa since Fifa 07. I thought Fifa was doomed. I still feel like it might be, but Fifa 15 is an improvement.

It is still a broken game. Biggest issue for me: Goalkeepers make no sense. If you try to put it into the corners of the goal the keeper will dive and save it.. If you shoot it right at the keeper, they fail

Having the new engine on PC is nice though.

  • It is basically F1 2013 with a 4 instead of a 3. It does take the piss a bit, knowing that the 2015 version is right around the corner, but I still had to get it, for the online fun. I also needed more games for my wheel.

  • Now that this game has come out of Early Access and career has been implemented, it is finally shaping up to be a great game. There still needs tweaking, some of the hot lap medal times are too easy on some races and too hard on others. The AI needs more work too.

Once you have your wheel set up, and its just you, the track and the clock, driving sims do not get much better.

  • Who needs a campaign (yeah there is one but that bit of dialogue don't count). Fast paced, big mechs, big weapons, wall running... fun times

  • I am not a LOTR/Hobbit fan. I fell asleep during the 2nd LOTR film. I woke up when some trees were fighting, thats all I remember.

That said, fortunately you do not need to know anything about LOTR lore to enjoy Shadow of Mordor.

I did get bored after the first section of the game and therefore did not complete it, but while it lasted, the nemesis system was interesting and the combat was as good as the batmans. I do wish that the side missions were more interesting, and that there was more variety in the strengths/weaknesses of the orc leader dudes

  • Just like Shadow of Mordor, I did not finish this game. This wouldn't be on my list.. but it seems I have run out of games :D

It is fun. It looks nice (when you fix the stuttering on PC). The silenced sniper rifle is OP. You do not need any other weapon.
