I'm Hooked and I Shouldn't Be

About two weeks ago, I decided to browse Google Play for something to keep me entertained during my long bathroom trips. I stumbled upon a game that I am now addicted to. That game is called Puzzle and Dragons. Now, I'm not really into playing games on my cellphone and wasn't expecting much. Instead, I was sucked into a game that is basically the steamy lovechild of Pokemon, Digimon, and Bejeweled.

This game will be released for 3DS some time in the future

It's a Match-3 RPG, where you collect "monsters" that have all various skills that go along with attributes. You use these monsters to build a team strong enough to clear a ton of dungeons. These monsters evolve and can be "awakened" to become even stronger.

Now, these monsters have elemental inclinations (Fire, Water, Wood, Light, and Dark) and some of the evolved forms have dual elements, which adds more layers to combat and team building. You also get to employ a helper monster, which is a monster that's owned by another player. The Monsters vary from Greek & Asian Gods, to anime and video game characters (Evangelion and Space Invaders). As you probably guessed, many people want Gods--especially at early levels--because their incredibly strong. I managed to get Ares and Artemis after a few re-rolls during their Greek God event last week.

You get these monsters by collecting stones and purchasing them at Random Egg Machines, Random Egg Drops, and PAL Points. PAL Points are acquired when a player uses your monster and when you use someone else's monster; 200 PAL points gives you one egg from the PAL REM and 5 Magic Stones give you 1 egg from the Rare REM.

You can purchase magic stones--which is a waste of money--but it is not necessary. And what's even cooler is that Gung Ho Online Entertainment--the developer responsible for the game actually collaborates with other video games like Batman: Arkham Origins.

So, this is my latest addiction. A mobile game that has brought about an onslaught of procrastination so strong that I put off writing research papers for Communication Law and have lost sleep over. I never thought a simple cellphone game would have my attention.
