So at this point, in the manga/anime Dabura is just literally from Hell, right? Under the clouds and Snake Road? I know Xenoverse had some stuff about him and his sister or something, but that's a thirty years later retcon in a game and I dunno how much to read into where Shin says he's from considering translations. It's not like they translated Kami to God.
Nah, he's always been from the Demon Realm, which is a completely separate thing. Hell is for dead people, Demon Realm is for Demons. Geekdom101 did a good video that goes over everything we know about it:

The stuff in the games like Xenoverse just expands on Demon Realm stuff, it didn't introduce it. Also as far as I know they don't "retcon" newer lore into Kai in any way so you don't need to worry about that. Aside from some holdovers from the original dub (like using "Kami" and "Guardian of the Earth" instead of just "God" etc.) the Kai dub has a pretty damn accurate translation. It's kind of the whole point of that dub.
TL;DR - Kai dub is the most accurate dub, Demon Real and Hell are separate things.
My biggest surprise from these episodes was that I had forgotten how much build-up Supreme Kai gets. All I remembered was him being a loser who's weaker than every Saiyan. Is he seriously stronger than Piccolo?
Keep in mind that at this point the Saiyans are already absurdly powerful (and Piccolo is right behind them) with only a tiny handful of characters outclassing them in the entire universe. Shin is still very powerful himself, as he reveals in the next batch of episodes that he and the other former Supreme Kais would have been powerful enough individually to take out Frieza with ease. Also it's fairly impressive that he was able to immobilize Super Saiyan 2 Gohan long enough for Spopovich to jump him and start draining his energy. But no, Shin isn't more powerful than Piccolo from what we can tell, Piccolo just assumed Shin is in a class of his own because he's so high up in the universal hierarchy. Piccolo is more freaking out about the notion that such a being would even be in his presence at all.
Also, I don't think this is explained until Super, but they can't get a proper reading on Shin's power anyway because he's a Deity with Divine Ki rather than regular Ki. Oh, and we also find out in Super that there's a bigger hierarchy and it kinda makes more sense why the Supreme Kais aren't as all-powerful as you might originally expect them to be.
TL;DR - Nah, Big Green could probably body him, he's just freaking out.
No one tell them the voice actors from the Mr Satan vs cell movie made an entire send up of DBZ through the cell saga. They wont know how to handle it!
Since they're watching the blu-rays they didn't see the TFS version of that scene, they saw the original version instead. I explained that change in a previous comment with videos of both versions if you're curious.
TL;DR - They broadcast the TFS version initially on TV but had to take it out so they put the original Z audio in, so that's what the blu-ray has.
@garwalk: I'm saying they would be less likely to diss it. if the music choice, changed lines, and pacing werent worsened. They didn't go on and on, but they did appreciate when Goku sacrificed himself when Cell exploded. I myself felt the scene was much worse after having watched both the original Buu saga and Final Chapters back to back in the last couple of months.
Whether its Japanese or manga, the new scripts are worse. Early on in Kai they were even using Japanese move names rather than what they were known by in English. Eventually they stopped, likely realizing that was a dumb decision.
Kai, particularly the Final Chapters, may be useful in the situation of Jeff/Dan who (originally) just wanted the most condensed form. But the original will forever be the best version. Mostly for voice acting quality. (Music was better too. Easily debatable with regular Kai using original Japanese tracks, but Final Chapters new arcady tunes, all two of them, are impossible to defend)
There are plenty of people out there who prefer the different tone of the Z dub, and that's fine. That's all subjective and I've grown to appreciate the different English and Japanese versions of both Kai and Z (yes even the Ocean dub) for different reasons. I think you might be the first person I've ever seen to actually suggest the Z dub had better quality voice acting though. Now, to be fair, the further into DBZ you go the better the voice acting gets (the actors improved over the years) and honestly the Buu Saga isn't too bad but it's definitely not "better" than Kai. If you're really suggesting the Z dub as a whole had better acting you either need to go back and watch earlier episodes or you're simply a bad judge of voice acting.
Here's a good comparison clip, and it's not even one of the bad ones, it's actually pretty average. Funnily enough it's on Youtube because of the bad script. It uses the Japanese soundtrack for both but that's fine since we're just comparing the acting:

You can argue that certain scenes "worked better" in the Z dub because of the tone or possibly the script sometimes, I'm sure people would even agree in some cases, but don't pretend the overall voice acting in Z was better because that's nuts. Most fans don't believe that and the actors themselves certainly don't believe that. They're much more experienced, they have a much better dubbing process allowing for more takes and fine tuning, the directors are better and they have more time to get it right.
Hell, Sean Schemmel (Goku) has improved by leaps and bounds over the years and he's the main character. Goku was his first voice acting role for goodness sake! You could almost make the case for Kai on that alone.
When the FUNimation Z dub began they were literally hiring anyone off the street who came in to audition because they couldn't get professional voice actors interested (FUNimation didn't have much money back then and anime dubbing in general was still essentially in its infancy) and Chris Sabat ended up voicing half the characters because he was on a regular salary and was thankfully pretty versatile.
Thankfully the cast are all seasoned pros now, but they didn't start off that way and it shows.
So fun tidbit about the Cell Games Reenactment scene. Originally Chris Sabat got the TeamFourStar (Dragon Ball Z Abridged) guys to dub that scene using their character voices and I believe it aired on TV but they had to take it out for the blu-ray. The one they used in the blu-ray is actually the old version straight out of the Z dub. Here are both versions:

Both are good for different reasons, though I'm glad Jeff and Dan saw the old dub version as that's better for a first-time viewer while the TFS version is funny for those deep in the fandom as it makes tons of references both to DBZ memes and Abridged lines/jokes.
Just thought I'd post that as it slipped under the radar for lots of people. I think it's kind of wild that the Abridged voices made it into an official dub in some form.
Krillin did have a girlfriend at one point, called Marin, and he and 18 named their daughter after her. I don't think Kai ever mentions her, I think she was in DBZ and not OG DB, but I remember him pining for her and her walking all over him.
Maron was a filler character in the anime, she never appeared in the manga. She was in the Garlic Jr. filler arc I think, or right before or after it.
Apparently (according to the Dragon Ball Wiki at least) Marron (Krillin's daughter) wasn't named after Maron (Krillin's anime girlfriend) as Toriyama said she was named after the French word for chestnut because Krillin's name also partly comes from the Japanese word for chestnut.
@crylion: The only thing I don't get is, by reading the episode summaries on wikipedia, it sounds like you miss a bunch of important things from the missing episodes. Videl confronting Gohan about his secret identity and blackmailing him into participating in the tournament, Goku talking to Gohan, Vegeta, etc. from Other World to tell them he's coming back for a day, Goten transforming into a Super Saiyan in front of Gohan for the first time...
...surely all that stuff wasn't cut out, right? Does that mean the first few episodes of the Japanese Broadcast version are just the important bits from a bigger handful of the full International release chopped up and mashed together? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
Maybe I'll just find that version and check out the differences myself. It's almost like you're watching double-Kai as it's been trimmed down from Z and then trimmed again even more.
