The cheapness of certain IP franchises...

There are certain franchises that are overexposed, starting out as a work of genius, like The Matrix, that turns into The Matrix Sequels and The Matrix games. That is fine, everyone who was involved with building the IP had all the skill and intention needed to make the followups as great as the original movie, but there just weren't enough good story to continue beyond the first movie.

Obviously everything in this article is based entirely on my opinion and not the opinion of a selected populous, the organization I work for or any of their competitors. This is important, especially the middle part.

There are certain other franchises where continuing a proven concept gets ruined by forcing it through focus groups and 'the producers of popular movie X', and for no reason I'm bringing up the Pink Panther movies and BBC's Coupling. Thankfully no games were made to further humiliate the original creators.

And then there are franchises that are created solely to pawn a maximum number of extremely cheap toys, I'm not talking Star Wars here since the movie was great in the first place it is still loved by those who cared for it in the first place. No, I am thinking of franchises that were created by the toy companies as full length advertising cartoon episodes and broadcast by inconsiderate TV corporations. But when something comes along and pokes a supremely cheap franchise in the eye I feel extremely rewarded, such as the Trans-Clown-O-Morps. Thanks Curiosity.

Hey - what is my name doing here?

Ok, I'm not often finding my name on random sites, and it doesn't make it any better that the name of the site is Giant Bomb. Makes me feel, I don't know, something of a failure without being aware of it.. But the damage is done and here I am. Anyway, what I'm doing right now (or should be doing) is to make my little simulated city people blow up. It doesn't feel right either... can't we do a game where people can just get on with their lives instead of being some sort of sick added entertainment value? Isn't it enough that you can blow up the cars?
