I'm going to suggest a different way to approach this. Honestly you should take the easiest and cheapest route, just find some free online steaming service(preferably legal). Pick something that might interest you based on the description and look(appealing visuals is half the reason I start watching something). You should get a pretty good idea if you might like something just based on the story alone.

Gotta say that MGS3s story and cut scenes seem the most anime like so far. I'm sure other have suggested to Dan based on what he seems to like, something like Black Lagoon is a pretty good fit. There's also a hell of a lot of mech based action anime but its probably easier to watch and find something made within the last ten years.

I didn't expect to find someone recommending riding bean, I was just considering buying that off of rightstuff because it look like some weird old 80's action anime.

@frostyryan: If i remember correctly, there might be a official answer to what happens at the end of Cowboy Bebop(if you want to look for that)..... As for the Movie, assuming you haven't seen it. I wouldn't say anyone should go out of there way to watch it compared to the series buts that's my opinion.

@sergio I enjoyed most of Akame ga Kill for what its was(havent read any of the manga). Thought all bets were off pretty early on when people started dieing.

@daveyo520: Pierrot Le Fou is one of my fav Spike action episodes which is yet to come, haven't watch all of Cowboy Bebop in years though. Might have to pick up the collection on a christmas sale though...wow listening to Space Lion...a lost soul makes me want to for sure.
