@theht That was a very good video. Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed this part

"Ideologues are creating a stage for constant, artificial high drama, where everybody is either a magnificent hero or a sickening villain... The great thing about social media is that it gave a voice to voiceless people but we're now creating a surveillance society, where the smartest way to survive is to go back to being voiceless."

I guess it begs the question that if anybody can misconstrue what you say or your meaning in any way, should you bother to express your opinion at all? Or should you just keep quiet? Is there a place for objection, of criticism of popular beliefs, of being negative, or being insensitive and ignorant because sharing your ideas will mark you as a "sickening villain"?

There should be a place for discourse on a wide scale, not limited to a small community like Giant Bomb. To share ideas without immediately being judged and dehumanized as a demon. Twitter is not that. Even the structure of Giant Bomb doesn't allow for that. There are definitely things I can't talk about because sharing these opinions and my ignorance would label me lesser making me ripe for defamation and humiliation. Even I change what I write based on how it will be perceived by the Giant Bomb audience. I participate here on Giant Bomb because I'm more familiar with the community and the community's ideals. But on Twitter and elsewhere, I choose to be voiceless because I'd rather avoid confrontation than willingly invite it.

edit: this post sounds really preachy, sorry bout that

  1. Yep in Total War: Rome - Rome, AC2 - Florence, Red Dead Redemption - early 20th century American frontier
  2. Yep the main reason I play AC games is because I want to explore historical worlds
  3. There are so few historical games, if I had to choose I'd go with 17th - 20th century US. Which is too broad a time period if we are talking history, there are just so few games. Really though my interest is piqued for games with any historical setting. I also like old fantasy. Anything regarding old traditions/cults/dieties/culture/folklore (Ex. I am more interested in Nioh because of its Japanese folklore/culture than its gameplay)
  4. Nope, I just read r/AskHistorians fairly regularly

Here is a fun fact I learned from my own interest in Total War: Rome. Augustus Caesar and Cleopatra lived closer to the present day (~ 2000 years) than they did to the building of the Great Pyramids (~ 2500 years)

I do think groupthink has a lot to do with it but I always found that it is context that defines how words are taken and understood. Context is everything. Words without context can mean so many different things to many different people. I've been listening to The Last Podcast on the Left which is a comedy podcast that has some of the darkest humor around. There isn't a group, ethnicity, or race alive today they haven't made jokes about. They have been taken to task for some of the jokes too by news stations and other media. But I know they are all comedians and I know they are simply, just making jokes. I understand the context of what they were talking about, reacting to, and joking about.

In this thread, I think we should steer clear of Maher and Dawkins. While Bill Maher is a good talk show host and Dawkins a brilliant biologist in his day, when these two start getting philosophical about religious issues, their prejudices come to the forefront. They are very militant about atheism and political correctness and I feel like they are chiding and egging on people, even if I agree on some of their points. So far, the thread has been solid and those two guys are fairly toxic for some valid reasons.

@retrometal:

  • You should make sure in the options that Amiibos are enabled in the game.
  • Press Up on the d-pad to select a power, there should be an Amiibo power you can select. Select it.
  • With the Amiibo power selected, press the Left bumper button, it should show a white circle on the ground in front of Link
  • Scan the amiibo over the sensor on your controller

Nope.

The Ocarina of Time outfit and special equipment can only be unlocked through the Ocarina of Time amiibo. It's the same for the Wind Waker, 8-bit Zelda, and Smash Bros Twilight Link. I should say that these are really only for cosmetic appearances. They don't have a strong defense rating.

Here is a guide to the Amiibo out right now. http://imgur.com/a/QWNvr

I'm not a regular of Kinda Funny but I always enjoyed the rapport between Greg and Colin. I don't think the twitter drama that happened this weekend was fully the cause. I think it was just the straw that broke the camel's back in regards to him making the decision to finally leave.

In any of these situations, people either feel like they are getting a bonus or feel like they're getting cheated on content. I feel like they are giving a nice bonus to people who bought amiibo.

Not to sound overly nitpicky, I think the overall level of polish this game has highlights some of the problems I have with it.

  • Cooking meals takes you out of the inventory menu every time. It should leave you in the menu system because I am always batch cooking. I'm never cooking a single meal.
  • I agree with the voice acting. It's subpar. Also the English dub doesn't match the mouth animation.
  • I've been limited to 100 stamps when I've felt the need to use more.
  • I really miss proper dungeons.
  • The frame rate

I'll have to see how my fight with Ganon goes, but as of now, BotW has the smallest main quest line since the 2D Zeldas. Despite being the largest Zelda ever made, the main story sections moving me through the game are lacking and feel insignificant. That's just my opinion however. There are probably plenty of people who are fine with the minimal narrative.

Wait, which ones are open world RPG's? I only count three open world games (FFXV, Yakuza, and Zelda) and Zelda's hardly an RPG.

Yeah, I was wrong about that and I'll edit my comment. I was being very loose with the term "open world". The fourth game I was thinking about is Persona 5. I was using open world rpg to mean any non-linear quest-based game with loot that separates the central main quest with optional unique secondary quests. You could add both Nioh and Nier to that list though. So I'll change it to 3 instead of 4.
