PlayStation Exclusives That Make Wonder Why I Don't Own A PlayStation

Throughout my life, I have owned many a game console. Starting with an NES and most recently buying an X-Box 360. Through it all, however, I have never owned a PlayStation, PlayStation 2 or PlayStation 3. I have a wide variety of excuses for not owning a Sony console, but a combination of bad timing and poor judgment is mostly to blame. These are Sony Exclusives that make me bang my head against the wall and ask why I don't own a PlayStation.

Obviously I have never owned a game on this list, but my play time with each one varies. This should be quite obvious by my descriptions, some will be more detailed, while others may be more based on reviewers opinions and hearsay.

My rating scale is based on the face-palm system, meaning how disgusted I am with myself that I don't own a PlayStation.

5 Face-Palms: A PlayStation exclusive that  is of high quality and suits my tastes in gaming perfectly.
4 Face-Palms: A PlayStation exclusive that would suit my tastes quite well but may not have reviewed as well as I would have hoped.
3 Face-Palms: A PlayStation exclusive that may not fit my tastes to a tee, but one that I have heard good things about and would like to try.
2 Face-Palms: A PlayStation exclusive that I would like to try out as I may have heard that it is of good quality or similar to my tastes in games.
1 Face-Palms: A PlayStation exclusive that I'm not really interested in  at all.

List items

  • Giant Bomb's 2009 Game of the Year. It packs incredible storytelling into a visually stunning masterpiece with fantastic gameplay. Arguably the best game to be released on the PlayStation 3.

  • Although it seems to be a fairly "Hit or Miss" game with reviewers often calling the first few hours boring and mundane, Heavy Rain is right up my alley. An extreme reliance upon storytelling and visuals to accentuate a fairly basic gameplay system.

    5 Face-Palms out of 5

  • AN incredible experience. Stunning visuals and audio. Another game with a great story is added to the list, starting to see a pattern?

  • A platformer based almost entirely on user-created content and cute, little beanbags. Need I say more?

  • The rich man's Prototype, inFAMOUS had my attention from the moment I saw it at E3. A comic book game based on a brand new IP from the guys that brought you Sly Cooper (another PlayStation exclusive that I've never owned), it sounded great. Different powers and abilities based upon moral decisions, it seemed like my kind of game. I've heard varying opinions regarding the execution of the morality system, but hey, not everything can be perfect and this game still seemed pretty damn close. It's a shame I'll never get to play it.

  • I've never played a game for the Metal Gear series, but this game received so much positive feedback, I wish that I had the chance to see what it was all about. A stealth action game from Hideo Kojima, man that dude sounds crazy. I mean, seriously, he played the "voice of god" in his own game! The story seems convoluted and hard to follow, but hey, that's what the Japanese are for.

  • Obviously Final Fantasy XIII isn't actually a PlayStation exclusive, but after all that I've heard about the X-Box 360 version, let's just pretend it is. Now I'm not usually a fan of JRPGs, but Final Fantasy is the king and I've been craving a new RPG to sink my time into since finishing Mass Effect 2.

  • Similarly to Final Fantasy, I'm not usually a big fan of brawlers. In this case, however, I may have actually enjoyed the experience. Extreme violence and gore, Greek mythology. what's not to love?

  • As a sports fan, I often enjoy the occasional foray into sports video games. I frequently buy Madden and the EA Sports NHL games (No, I'm not the Gears of War and Madden guy. . . brah). However, I also enjoyed baseball games a great deal last generation. For that reason, I miss play good baseball games. I've tried MLB 2K10 and I'm not a fan. MLB: The Show constantly reviews better than the 2K series, so it would be nice to get to play a decent baseball game for once.

  • Another game that I first saw at E3 and tracked through its entire development cycle. The experience seems extremely rich for being a downloadable game and would be great to play with a group of friends, but only if everyone had mics. And that's a major but.
