GOTY 2016

[NOT FINAL]

Will be from Best to Worst once I'm done with it. Still figuring out the descriptions, the one's I have done I am probably gonna add to.

Tryna figure it out before user voting starts.

As a PC player I can't quite believe I haven't played Watch_Dogs 2, XCOM 2, Dishonored 2, Civilization VI, Planet Coaster, Total War: Warhammer and ABZÛ.

List items

  • There's currently a deficit oaf peace and beuty in the world; thankfully a small team in the Czech Republic heard the call and produced a game of pure grace. The short 4+ hour dream contains revelatory art direction that changed my mind about an entire medium. I didn't respect 'Collage' because it always seemed to be the minimum effort required for visual communication, but the care and craft demonstrated within the world of Samorost 3 is inspiring and tought me to take the form seriously.

The game resonated with me personally considering how 2016 has been and how the game implictly and gently made me think, so one last point. The sound design is a beautifully tactile experience.

  • A lesson in patience, deliberation and foresight.

    [PC Version Released this year]

  • Fun, guided sandbox.

  • Animation, Sound Design

  • Interupting Dialogue System

  • I finally stopped playing CS:GO because I have found something more difficult.

Getting headshots with the 'Double Take' in Titanfall 2 is probably the most difficult things to do in any game. But I'm getting there.

They shouldn't have used the fodder AI for the enemies in the singleplayer, its great when you fighting better people in the multiplayer but on their own they don't engage with the space around them like DOOM and stop being fun to fight. Occasionally there are enemies that wall run towards you but they're still trash. Foutunatly, the Mission design more than made up for it and the enemy Titan AI is great.

  • The overarching development of puzzle vocabluary and level design come together to make a beautiful, beautiful

    Master Planning

  • I didn't play Banner Saga 1 but the lore building in this game is magnificant. The tactifully agressive turn-based combat was very refeshing in this year of first-person games.

    Story

  • I found the last third of the game boring and the final boss was aweful and anti-climatic.

But before that the gameplay was entralling with experimentation achivements and upgrades for the player. The enemies were consistently tough.
