Cleric: Best of 2010

  • Nothing much to say here, besides a heartfelt thanks to one of my good friends for convincing me to pick this one up, despite my uninterest for its setting. Rockstar proves once again, as if there were any doubts, that they're the best writers in the industry. John Marston, ladies and gentlemen, will be remembered as one of the most memorable characters in the history of videogames. What the hell were you guys thinking by leaving him out of Best Characters of 2010?

  • There's no doubt in my mind that this game and my GOTY for 2010 stand on a whole other level than pretty much anything that came out this year. Now that I stop and think about it, this year was pretty weak, especially when compared to 2009.

Mass Effect 2 is exactly what it needed to be, a more polished game that plays better than the first one and stays true to the BioWare formula of RPGs. The only gripe I have is that the first Mass Effect's story was more cohesive. ME2 on the other hand has better characters and a wider universe to explore. Anyways, terrific game.

  • I'm not even going to talk about the lackluster single player, because the multiplayer is where it's at. And it's that damn good. This was definitely a breath of fresh air coming off of Modern Warfare 2's shenanigans...if you have a bunch of friends playing with you, you'll find out that teamwork pays off and it's way more fun than going solo.

  • Last year, Assassin's Creed II took first spot on my list, and I still think it is the best of the franchise. Brotherhood is a more polished game, but I find it severely lacking in the personality department. In AC2 Ezio was a young and cocky boy who discovered his larger-than-life destiny while driven by the desire of avenging his family, while in Brotherhood he's a full fledged assassin but a way less intense individual. At this point, it's for the best of the franchise if Ubisoft revolves the next game solely around Desmond. (Uh, yeah. DAT ENDING).

It also doesn't help that Rome didn't do it for me, it just felt uninspired. I understand that it's due to the story's natural progression, but in AC2 you could roam around in a goddamn gondola, for fuck's sake. Think about that.

  • I'm not really into RTS games, even though I played a ton of them back in the day, but then again I do like games that try to tell a good story. The story, the characters, the setting...it all blends together so nicely, and as a RTS it's just fun to play. If I were to describe this game in a single word, it would be "refreshing".

  • Solid single player, fantastic coop, great multiplayer. The only downside is that it's just more Halo.

  • This was one of my most anticipated games of this year, but for some reason I ended up playing it just a few months ago. I should say that I really enjoyed Indigo Prophecy and I'm a sucker for games that try to tell a good story. This one was a bit lame, but at least it didn't turn out to be as whimsical as Indigo Prophecy's.

  • I remember putting a lot of time into Fallout 3, and I certainly did the same with this one. My experience wasn't plagued by that many bugs and glitches (I played the PC version), and by the end of the game I felt that New Vegas, albeit technically underwhelming, has a lot more well rounded characters than its predecessor. Can't wait to see what's in store for us now that Gamebryo is no more.

  • This game was a pleasant surprise. It's a little derivative and you can clearly see that the developers took inspiration from some of the biggest games in the market, but it comes off as a nice new IP. Definitely deserves this place as a honorable mention.

  • Let me get this straight. I know that hundreds of people will slobber all over it in their lists, but this game made mine just because I literally couldn't think of the tenth game to add. I don't like it, and to be honest I think Vanilla was a better effort, considering the time that passed since the glorious Third Strike came out. SSF4 is still unbalanced, the new characters are terrible, it's still random to the core and ultimately felt to me like a scam (Arcade Edition? Seriously?). Also, it's pretty much unplayable unless you live in Japan or have friends to compete with locally. Deal with it.
