Not sure about how nQuake is too crazy for Mac users; you put the .pk files in your home folder, open the terminal, and paste the commands from the install.txt file that comes with the Mac nQuake download into it, which in this case is just ./<name of nQuake install file>
 
Obviously you can also just leave the .pk files where they are and cd to them, but most people leave their terminal set to open on their home directory so seems simpler to just put them there, IMO.
