Thanks for posting y'all. We have a fix underway to make the hit area more generous. We hadn't had any issues while testing internally but totally saw what you said after playing with it even more.
Notifications though – y'all still having issues with that? If so let us know.
Also, I hear your frustration @therealturk. Please do keep in mind that we do test internally throughout the development and build process and sometimes stuff still doesn't pan out perfectly despite our best intentions. This isn't an attention to detail problem.
@theadmin: You're right, there's a lot of moving parts here. There's some updates we have lined up that changes things site-wide for colors, especially in all the text. There's more updates that focus on modules specifically – like the carousels. This stuff is going out iteratively, so definitely keep an eye out. We're making sure to avoid big, monolithic changes for a myriad of reasons but that means these early updates might have some inconsistencies.
Also I could've sworn I've asked about persisting the grid/carousel choice. I don't have a definite answer for ya but I'll absolutely bring it up.
Have another opening on the design team! This time it's for our Summer Intern spot for 2019. The candidate that joins us for the summer will be helping out the rest of the team work on normal projects for Giant Bomb, GameSpot, Comic Vine, and possibly GameFAQs. Details are over on the CBSi job board:
Hey folks. The design team is currently looking for a UI/UX Designer to join us. Whoever has the chance to join the team will be working on Giant Bomb, but also responsible for working on GameSpot, Comic Vine, and GameFAQs.
I'm hoping to find someone with a good amount of experience working on the web in complex sites. Responsibilities range from interaction patterns, UI patterns, user flows, to user research and testing. If you're interested I highly, highly encourage to read thoroughly through the job description.
@theadmin: Don't worry, we're listening. You don't have to page anyone else on the team.
We're reading through a lot of discussions (for example, this one thread has nearly 800 comments while I'm writing this!) and can't respond to every individual comment. Honestly wish we could, but we're hard at work on the site.
Will and I are talking about stuff we're working on and shipping on the Devcast and also tend to give updates on Twitter as well. Here's the links if you're interested:
@suprst4r: Made a general reply to the thread but wanted to bounce back specifically about a couple of points you brought up.
Mentioned it in the other reply, but the beta's going to feel like a real beta for a bit. There's a lot of fit and finish details we're ironing out.
Also, very aware of the accessibility concerns you brought up. It's already been on the list of details to address – larger decisions like having CTAs as white instead of red like on the current site for the highest amount of contrast, for example. Typography is a major subject for me as well for the beta. Not going into the boring details but there was a delay with some things involving licensing I had to take care of.
There's some interaction decisions we're ironing out as well while we're in beta.
