PAX, 2010

Now that PAX East is over, I'm excited to attend the 2010 PAX in Seattle. Only a few shorts months... Time to pre-order tickets and get a close hotel room before they are all sold.

And that's a good thing. Two solid days of over stimulated game senses is just about the perfect amount. I loved the setup - it's like E3, but much more fun.
I was able to chat with the Giant Bomb crew (the reunion was great), Alex and Rich, among some of the other dudes from Gamespot. I'm sure they remember our meeting as - oh yah, the dude who asked a bunch of dumb questions. ;) Either way, it was nice to meet the guys that give us this great website for free, and the other old-schoolers too. I forgot to ask Alex what drum kit he has - anyone know? Maybe I'll nerd out more next time and get photos and stuff, but the guys looked tired and I didn't feel like bugging them.
I managed to play every game on my list - most importantly Rock Band 2 (drums) and Guitar Hero World Tour (drums). The setup for RB2 was great - the stage, lights, etc were a nice touch. I think everyone had a good time and got into the songs more up on stage. I gotta say I loved the GH drums, more so than the RB2 drums - they had a much more realistic feel to them; almost like a pair of electronic drums; where as the RB2 drums felt like a small upgrade from the RB drums. It's irrelevant though, as I'm getting the Drum Rockers from Ion anyway. This isn't news, but the RB2 song lineup is quite amazing - the show seemed to have *all* the songs from RB1, RB2, and all the DL content. GH only had a handful of songs for demo, bummer.
We stopped by to chat with Wil (Wheaton) a little about his book, blog, and other super nerdy stuff. He seems like a cool guy - just another dude, who happens to have some fame in his background.
It was cool getting sigs from the Minibosses. I've liked their music from the get-go. I didn't actually get to see them live, which totally sucks. I did manage to get in the first night and see the 1-ups, and the freeze pops who are decent too.
Here's hoping they keep PAX in Seattle. The rest of the US has enough cool things, Seattle needs it's little bit of coolness.
My Wii is seldom used. The only reason I bought it is to play Nintendo Only titles - Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Mario Kart, (Kid Icarus?). With Nintendo it's always a long wait for the few blockbuster titles they have. I don't mind - that's what my 360 is for.
PAX is tomorrow. I'm anxious to check out a bunch of upcoming video games. I plan to stop by and see Wil Wheaton (Tone is a super fan, I think), grab the Keynote by Ken Levine, sit in on the Giant Bomb reunion, hopefully get to play some Rock Band (2?) up on the big stage. With any luck I'll get to see Minibosses on Saturday night, among the other bands that look cool too.
I've been following this site since Jeff and Ryan put this thing together on day one (prior to that was blog.jeffgerstmann.net and ArrowPointingDown.com). I was very excited to see the new Giant Bomb website after this year's E3. I love this website - it's clean, efficient, stylistic, and very sharp looking; not to mention it's easy to navigate, browse, and search for content on games and just about anything else game related. I'd like to applaud their efforts at making a great website.
