Review: Bionic Commando 1

I have very fond memories of Bionic Commando on NES. As a kid, I was always saving up every penny I could earn in anticipation of my next visit to the video store. I would debate what game I would rent next, hoping it would be good and that I wouldn't squander my hard earned money on another Back to the Future. I remember seeing the Bionic Commando box with Rad Spencer equipped with a grappling hook to his arm, swinging between robots and enemy troops. This game surely wouldn't be terrible ...

Review: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena 0

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was a part of that rare breed of movie games that didn't suck. Developer Starbreeze Studios created a first person experience that delivered a fully realized environment and immersive stealth gameplay that was true to the Riddick character while not becoming a slave to the movie's license.Yet since the game came out in 2004, a year before the Xbox 360, and carrying the negative connotation of being a movie game, it never really caught on fi...

Review: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe 0

As a hardcore fighting game fan, I've never liked Mortal Kombat. The series was never deep enough for me to sink my fangs into and the dial-a-combo style of fighting turned me away in favor of fighters with cancel systems and custom combos. So, when Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was announced, my first reaction was of bewilderment, then a resounding meh. Yet, I decided to give it a try since I'm a rabid comic book fan, and I can't turn a chance down to fight as Batman.Everything about MK vs ...

Review: Fight Night Round 4 0

I'm an unabashed boxing fan. My family raised me on the sport and it was always a family event when our favorite fighters were scheduled to meet in the ring. The PPV would be ordered, friends and relatives were invited, and we all bonded over the sweet science. Boxing was revered in my home, it still is, and I always looked for a pure experience in my boxing games. Because of this, I found most games were either unrealistic or made mistakes in trying to translate the sport to the medium ...

Review: Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? 1

Super hardcore games are a dime a dozen. The incredibly difficult games of yesteryear that enjoyed a life on the NES, Genesis and Super NES have died out, leaving only a few games that wear the badge of hardcore as an honor; Ninja Gaiden, Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins, and Devil May Cry 3. So who would've thought that the next game to come along and kick you in the groin and laugh in your face would be so darn adorable doing it? Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? is a side scrolling action plat...

Review: Alone in the Dark 0

I'm not too familiar with the Alone in the Dark series. I'm a big fan of survival horror in general, but I'm a Resident Evil kind of guy, with bouts of Fatal Frame thrown in for true pants wetting horror. It was good to hear then, that the new Alone in the Dark game being released for XB360 was going to be a reboot of sorts, bringing paranormal investigator Edward Carnby into the modern age. I could start fresh, and see what all the fuss was over this series.Well, I still don't know what al...

Review: Phantasy Star Portable 0

The Phantasy Star series has had some troublesome times. After a stellar run on the Dreamcast, Gamecube, and even Xbox, Sega released the not so stellar Phantasy Star Universe. The game was hyped to a startling degree, touting a full fledged single player with an epic story, and the online mulitplayer that we all loved in PSO. But when the game finally came out, it fell flat on it's face. The single player was nothing special, mimicking the single player of PSO except with a story, and the...

A Fresh and Fun Fighter 0

The fighting game genre has to be the hardest genre to start a new IP in. Hardcore fighting game fans are usually loyal to their favorite franchise or developer and rarely give newcomers a shot. It's also incredibly hard to keep a fighting game balanced, fun, and offer something new that Street Fighter or Tekken hasn't done already.   It seems BlazBlu and AkSys Games have done just that.   BlazBlue is the spiritual successor to AkSys Games previous fighter, Guilty Gear. With Sega havin...
