GoneWacko: Best of 2010
2010 was the first time in a long while that saw regular releases of Dwarf Fortress, with huge new features to boot. Will it win Game of the Year? No. Should it? Maybe. I'm calling this a honourable mention.
Originally just a game I played after Modern Warfare 2 got boring to bridge the gap between it and Black Ops, I ended up liking this more than MW2 and sinking in more hours than MW2 and Black ops combined.
The bane of my existence and the cause of all my procrastination.
This is jimmy.
While the PC version of this game left a lot to be desired (such as the ability to play with friends and not having to leave a server just to fix your classes), it does seem to have fixed a lot of the frustrating gameplay issues that the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer had. I sure do miss quickscoping though...
I'm a PC gamer, and while this was technically a 2009 game, it didn't come out on PC until Q1 of 2010
I'll be honest. I usually only play two or three rounds of a Civ game and then the game disappears onto my (virtual) bookshelf for a year, but these two or three rounds were pretty damn enjoyable.
I still need to finish this some day, but it's highly unlikely that I'll like this game any less as I progress through the game.
Explosions!
I don't think there is any game that garnered more attention this year than Minecraft. I also enjoyed it, but it got boring pretty quickly as well. And is Notch perhaps given a bit more slack, praise and credit than he deserves..?
