Battlefield 3: More stuff

I've noticed that if you've got an ACOG sight with a laser sight turned on, the laser dot will actually be right around the bottom of the red chevron in the ACOG sight. This seems confusing, because I had assumed that the tip of the chevron was the center of the ACOG sight?

Hmm, just unlocked a holosight for my RPK-74M. How do I go and customize my Russian soldier? The main menu lets you go and customize your loadouts, but only for your US soldier. It won't let me customize my Russian soldier. Why is this? Why would there be a customization menu for only one side? The only way to customize your Russian soldier is during an actual match. Sorry, but I like to actually play the game while I'm in a match, and you know, capturing flags, not fiddling around in loadouts deciding what to select. That's just me though.

DICE dropped the ball yet again. The jets in Battlefield games have always been really powerful in the right hands, but also a tad bit difficult to pilot for new players. They require a lot of skill to utilize. And, thinking about that problem... it occurred to me that you don't really get any opportunity to try them out in singleplayer. There's a level where they let you sit in the backseat of a Super Hornet but it's just a on-rails sequence. You just kinda look around and fire a bunch of missiles at planes and drop flares. It's not what I had in mind. It would really have helped if they'd included a dedicated fighter section in the game to help beginners and just people who have always kinda shied away from the intimidating task of piloting a plane. Cause valuable vehicles in BF have always been fought over in multiplayer and if you don't know what the hell you're doing in em, well, people on the server kinda get pissed off. And... rightfully so, it's stupid to just let a noob crash them into the ground when they're an absolute juggernaut in the right hands.

Is there any reason why the M60 is behind the M240B in the unlock hierarchy? They both have 100 round belts, they both use 7.62mm rounds. The only difference is that the M60 is a lot slower in ROF. Seems strange that it'd be a higher unlock then the M240B, since it's inferior.

One thing I dislike is how there aren't any letters on the map now. In Bad Company 2, every flag had a letter so you could easily tell where all of them were on the map. In BF3, you've just got a bunch of random squares on the map. Where's points C and A in the picture below? Can you just tell at a glance? Not really. You can scroll through each point and search for the flashing circle to appear, but it takes some time and effort. During a game, you really want to be able to tell instantly where everything is so you can pick quickly where to go.

I gotta say, having just played some rounds as an engineer, that I actually love the repair tool and tank combo. It's not realistic in the slightest, but the way you can just sit behind the tank and repair it back up as it's duking it out with an enemy tank kinda feels like healing a tank in an MMO. You're the healbot, but it's satisfying. I just ride up top manning the machinegun, spotting enemies and raping infantry, then hop off and start repairing as soon as we get into combat with a tank or some engineers with RPGs.
