Wanna test my new puzzly-kinda game?

For once, I'm making a game that's primarily for fun (no artgame pretense D:).

I think it's pretty cool, but I could certainly use some feedback to make it as good as possible.

You can find it here: http://www.devinwilson.net/WP/pit-chess-test/

The password is pctest. Thanks!

Edit: playing it some more on my own, I think it needs to be more difficult. Maybe drop pieces on every move, but only increase the number dropped when a piece isn't captured?

Edit 2: I've changed some things to make it more challenging (which is to say, challenging at all).

Edit 3: I've made even more changes!

Edit: It's on Kongregate now! http://www.kongregate.com/games/devwil/pit-chess

Hey, you never explained how the knight moves! Still, giving this a shot now.

@Little_Socrates: Ah, good point! Knight moves like a knight :P I'll fix the webpage.

So, I'm at about 184050 points right now, and this game feels REALLY easy. I feel like I'd be having more fun if it was more difficult. I'm not sure how to make it harder, though...

At first I didnt get it but after a while I got in to it. Simple idea but real addictive I played it for fair old time. cool stuff man I liked it. :)

At 272200 now, and I'm realizing the issue; the game caps at 8 pieces dropped, right? As a result, I'm never going to lose, as rooks, bishops, knights, kings, and queens are so useful that the game never really wants to end. Essentially, chess pieces are always most powerful when they're close to other pieces, and this game keeps them close to other pieces all the time.

@Little_Socrates: I've made a number of changes that should make the game much more challenging.

@DevWil: For some reason, I think I'm playing the original still. I'm still capped at eight pieces dropping, and only when I'm not capturing a piece. I imagine this was changed, so I wonder why I'm not getting the new version.

@Little_Socrates: you need to reload the page :x. the filename's the same, so your browser thinks you've still got the right thing.

@DevWil: Gotcha. Let you know what I think by the end of the night.

I like it. It's simple, but fun. Two pieces drop, but you can only capture one piece at a time, so the challenge becomes making the most effective moves to get a high score. But I wish there was a way to keep it going, like if an entire line is full of white pieces or black pieces, the line will clear and I get so many points.

Simple... yet fun and addicting. I like it :D

It's actually a pretty cool concept. Fun.

I liked it, I lost at 21,000 points but I feel like I could have done a lot better if I thought it through a little more. The sign of a good puzzle game.

@Landon: You're not the first person to suggest something like this. I don't feel like such a Lumines-style mechanic fits the game, though.

I'm finishing up the game's tutorial now and I think the difficulty's in a good place now, so I might go ahead and release it before the night's over!

Edit: Er, it's 12:03 AM. Guess the night's over. Time flew!

Very neat concept, I like it. I have absolutely no idea how to make it better, but I will say I like the direction it's heading.

I like it. It's simple and addictive and it mixes a good chess and tetris-y feel. Nice work, man.

Hey it's a pretty neat idea. If only there was a way to keep the game going to give a sense of progression.
