They're trying to warn me, but the second I get off work tomorrow I'm marching into the Gamestop and paying full price. I'm in line for Mr. Kojima's wild ride as people are coming off it sick. I have to see it for myself. Give me that bb. I want that bb.
The argument becomes "Well the stealth game allowed him to play it loud so it's valid" but also action games let you play them with Rock Band instruments and I bet that's a shitty experience. How can you deal yourself the worst possible hand and still come away happy with the experience?
I haven't touched Death Stranding yet and in a week or so when I do, I'm perfectly willing to eat crow. Right now, as I see it, Death Stranding is exactly what was advertised. There isn't a stitch (strand?) of footage I've seen that doesn't line up with the game as I understand it to be. Every Metal Gear was deficient in specific aspects and successful despite them. I'm not expecting something perfect, I'm expecting something idiosyncratic.
It's less weird to me that Superfan Dan excoriated Death Stranding than it is that he ever liked Metal Gear. By his own admission he willfully misunderstood the game and gameplay. Which, ya know, I guess he's allowed to do, but at a certain point refusing to engage with game on its own terms becomes self-sabotage.
