The video game bounty of Thanksgiving continues with Syndicate (2012) on the PC. After 10 hours blasting corporate soldiers and hacking systems, the story of Miles Kilo ends. Actually, it is less of an ending and more of a stop.

I have no illusions when it comes to the quality of the storytelling in the campaigns of contemporary first-person shooters. That said, I was disappointed in how little the story in Syndicate develops The setting and the action is great, but the journey doesn't travel far and the destination is unsatisfying. I really wish there more meat in Syndicate's campaign.

The shooting and breaching mechanics are great fun. All the guns have feel and sound right. The hacking abilities add a lot of flavor to the gun fights. The environments are a cool rendition of a cyberpunk future. Props to the game having some tough encounters, even on normal difficulty. However, the boss fights in the game can be too drawn out to a frustrating degree.

I really enjoyed my time with Syndicate and was sad when the campaign ended. The game could be so much more. Sadly, it looks as if this will be all there is.
