Giantbomb Top Games: Sega Genesis (Unfinished)
Rules:
Eligible gamers must have these:
1. A minimum of 2 votes, due to the low amount of reviews on GB.
2. A minimun score of 3.00
The position is going to be based on this: so that more popular releases have the ability to get higher score, but so that releases with a low amount of great reviews (example, Ristar has 3 votes totalling to perfect 5.00), the list will not be ordered from highest average to lowest. Instead, the number of votes will determine another score that determines the position. Votes will accumulate points, and the higher number of points determines the position. The number of points get much higher or low depending on the rating.
5 star ratings = 9 points (3 x 3)
4 stars = 4 (2 x 2)
3 stars = 1 point
2 stars = -1 point
1 star = -4 point
0 stars (it is possible, check Streets of Rage 3) = -9 pointsIn other words, higher ratings mean much more points, while lower ratings mean much less. This is so games like Ristar and Sonic 3 which had a lot of success, and a very low amount of reviews on GB, can be mixed in and there's no discrimination. Let's have a couple examples. Lower reviews mean a negative amount of points so that popular bad games won';t be mixed in with the good games, so the lower amount of stars won't reward games any points. Say we had a situation where the points were equal to the star ratings (5 stars means 5 points, four stars means four points, etc. a game had 20 1-star votes, and Ristar has 3 5 star votes. That means the bad game gets 20 points while Ristar gets 15. Pretty screwed, huh?
Here's an example of this system.
1. Ristar: 5.00 based on 3 votes.
Now, 3 votes worth 5 stars = 3 votes worth 9 points. 3 x 9 = 27.
2. Starfox Adventures has 5 4-star votes, 3 3-star, and 1 2-star.
Now, 4-star votes equal 4 points. 4x5 = 20. 3-star votes equal 1 point. 3 x 1 = 9. 2-stars = -1 point. 20 = 3 - 1 = 22.
Ristar has 27 points. Starfox Adventures has 22. Ristar and SA are 5 apart.
This system is used to help encourage uses, including myself, to rate and review more so that Giantbomb gets a more accuarate idea of quality. I hope you like it.
