That square tapping game Jeff mentioned ~6 mins in is called JuBeat and it's dope as hell. It's a favorite at Games Done Quick events in the arcade room. It has a bunch of anime songs and jpop and jrock I've never heard of along with a few random game songs (buncha Konami stuff from what I remember, definitely played Simon's Theme a lot).
This game has been disappointing to me since I first tried it. I really want the intermediate fighting game market to be filled better, as there is a much greater spectrum between something like Divekick and something like Guilty Gear than is being represented in the genre.
But this game just... feels bad. Plus the weird segmented health system is clunky and completely unnecessary; the concept of a health bar is not foreign to people, it doesn't need to be simplified. All it does is make the game way harder to balance since you're way more limited in how much damage moves can do.
idk I wanted this game to be way better than it is. Rising Thunder was phenomenal and I miss it so much.
EDIT: Also wow that tutorial is straight up the Guilty Gear tutorial. The running back and forth popping balloons and hitting enemies is exactly how GG did it.
