I think a lot of people like to shit on Over the Top as being formulaic, but when viewed through a post-modernist lens it becomes a damning indictment of the emptiness at the core of sports movies as a whole and, by extension, the hollowness at the center of the American Dream itself. It is a deeply nihilistic film and I applaud Ben for having the courage to bring a deep and nuanced discussion of it to a website that is ostensibly about video games. I hope to see more of this sort of academic content on the site in the future.
@devise22: Kingdom Hearts has always used a shitload of like LEGIT voice actors - Christopher motherfucking Lee is in Kingdom Hearts 2, for example. There's also the fact that like, I am pretty sure Mandy Moore and Haley Joel Osmont are Kairi and Sora (that was a big deal at the time (I have no idea if either of these people have careers anymore)).
EDIT: Wait it was Hayden Panettiere as Kairi. Mandy Moore is Aerieth.
I guess Hayden Panettiere has a career still. I still have no idea what the other two are doing.
