IPhone Gaming

This is my first attempt at a blog so i know this will be bad. Do you guys feel that the iphone can be a viable gaming platform?  With some dreamcast games and some psone games comming i believe it can, what say you.

@Gaspatchosoup: Well actually, if you jailbreak your iPhone you can do that. Oh, and, technically, this isn`t your first blog, it`s probably your first time starting a topic in the forum, but not your first blog.

Absolutely. It's got it's own place. I don't think it could ever replace a handheld with physical buttons, but there's a lot of potential for games that are always online, and for the time being, touch and tilt controls are of higher fidelity than anything else. We'll see what happens with the 3DS hardware.

Also, the app store software prices can't be beat. Sony's taking a cue from Apple with the Minis and Nintendo with DSi Ware, but I don't think they'll be competing any time soon. Free to $10 is a very compelling price range for some cool games you can't play elsewhere.

And Chu Chu Rocket for the win.

I think that Game Center has some really great potential at unifying multiplayer on the iPhone and having achievements for those games will be a plus, but since the only time I play games on my iphone is when I have 15-20 minutes to kill, I can't imagine being able to play anything more than a casual puzzle game etc. on it.

with the iphone, ipad, and itouch, it is very possible for it the brand to become a viable mobile/handheld gaming platform but nothing more than that. even so being a viable mobile/handheld gaming device, it still has a ways to go in order to achieve the grandiose scale that nintendo has in terms of game controls and mechanics but with games like angry birds, shibuya. words with friends, zenonia, and plants vs zombies, the iphone/ipad/itouch grows further a step towards achieving this goal. it will definitely be a while before it is achieved though.

Really can't see it with touch screen controls. It would be nice though.

I think it's already a viable game platform. Perhaps not for the sort of games we're used to, but for games designed for the control scheme (Angry Birds, Flight Control, etc.), it's already extremely popular.
