You guys need to try using the + button on the maneuver node. It shows up by right-clicking a maneuver node. This will show you where your target will be on the next orbit. So instead of just trying to match orbits with your target, you can hit the + button and see if the target is any closer on the next orbit. This will save you a ton of fuel when trying to rendezvous.
In other words, you don't have to wait until the next pass of the orbit to see if the intersect nodes "tick" closer. You can just create a maneuver node, right-click it, and then press the + button to instantly see what will happen on the next tick. Sometimes you might want to just sit tight for 8 orbits, because on that eighth one you'll have an intersect that's very close.
